THE YORK College field hockey team made their first MAC Commonwealth championship game appearance on Saturday, traveling to Grantham for a meeting with top-seeded Messiah.

The host Falcons picked up a 2-0 win to earn the title and the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid.

The Spartans fell to 15-5 overall while the Falcons improved to 16-2.

But there is good news. For the first time in school history, the York College field hockey team will be participating in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Spartans earned one of eight at-large bids to the field after their championship game appearance on Saturday.

The Spartans will host DeSales University in Wednesday’s opening round of the tournament.

York’s previous two conference championship game losses came in the Capital Athletic Conference against Salisbury in 1996 and 2000.

You can find more details on the game at this York College athletics link.
