York-based band rocks Launch Music Conference & Festival stage

LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival took place the weekend of April 14-17 and York-based band Violet Fire was selected to perform a set.

Stacey Mahoney is the lead vocalist for the act, and is a senior here at York College. Mahoney is the stage name for student Alayna Henry.

“Violet Fire has been a band since January of 2020, but since we were a ‘quarantine band’ our first live show wasn’t until July of 2021.” Henry says.

Members of Violet Fire include Adrian Hain on drums, Juliann Frances on bass, Kaitlynn Autumn and Grant Deguzman on guitar, and Stacey Mahoney on vocals. Their style is described as “hard punk rock,” but the band jokes that they write “Western Danger Punk.”

Violet Fire’s recently released an EP titled “Daydreams in Anarchy,” which can be listened to at this link.

Bands that perform at Launch must go through a submission process in order to be invited to play at the conference. Of the process, Henry recounts, “Applying to Launch was pretty easy. We chose the videos we wanted to submit, filled out the questionnaire and paid the entrance fee.”

After being selected, Violet Fire performed at Tellus 360 on April 14.

Says Henry, “I joined the York College rock band with the intention to learn something and become a pop singer. Day one in a rock band, I caught the rock music bug. Now I can’t imagine singing anything else.”
