As college students, there is one thing most of us thrive on in order to maintain daily routines, challenges, and course assignments and that is coffee. We are lucky enough to have a Starbucks in the entrance of the Humanities building as well as coffee available in the Appell Cafe. However, there are multiple other places to get coffee in York that can be easily accessible.
The Green Bean Roasting Company is located on 100 S. Beaver St. has been open for 12 years and has steady hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday.
The coffee shop has an abundance of delicious coffees and a variety of flavors, as well as daily specialty items. For the holidays, it has 12 specialty coffees on their menu!
These include a ButterBeer Latte, Peppermint Mocha, Nutcracker Macchiato, Snowberry Mocha, and many more. They are also very accommodating, as most drinks can be made iced, hot, blended, or even made with chai for noncoffee lovers. Their pricing isn’t too expensive, as well. In terms of distance, this coffee shop is only four minutes away from York College.
Molly’s Courtyard Cafe has two locations, including one at 46 W. Philadelphia St. The other is in Marietta, Lancaster County. It’s open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This cafe is a little bit farther from the Green Bean but is still only six minutes away from the college. Molly’s sells a variety of different coffees and flavors as well as different pastries that pair nicely with a warm or cold cup of coffee.
Latte Da Gourmet Cafe is located at 1801 W. Market St. Its hours are Monday to
Friday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s closed Sunday. This coffee shop is also only four minutes from the college. It has many different drinks such as hot coffees, lattes, hot chocolate, and tea. It also has iced drinks such as lattes, coffees, smoothies, and more. Complementing the beverages are pastries and sweets like biscotti and chocolate covered espresso beans!
Our final stroll down coffee lane leads us to the Belmont Bean Co., located at 18 S.
Belmont St. As its slogan states, it has “wicked good coffee.” While this shop doesn’t offer a wide variety of drink types, it has a large selection of flavors, toppings, and even a keto option when ordering online. This shop, however, is the farthest away from the college, as it is 10 minutes away. However, this is a nice trip if you are looking to get away from campus for a while.
Almost everything has been rising in price lately, especially popular and necessary items. I talked to Jennifer Schrieber, owner of The Green Bean Roasting Co about the rise in coffee prices and what it may look like in the future. She said that they “roast [their] beans so raw coffee hasn’t really gone up in price too much for [them]. Other set goods and shipping rates have inflated.”
She says that prices “may increase marginally” but that it is less about the pandemic and more because [they] haven’t raised them in six years “and it is time to do so.”

Overall, she says that the pandemic has not affected them, excluding the initial lockdown.
This is not to speak for all coffee shops, but hopefully this means our morning buzz isn’t one of the many things that increases in cost.
